POWERMIND CLINIC – Saving lives from addiction

Powermind is raising funds to set up a drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation clinic based in Chiswick (London Borough of Hounslow) but also accessible from anywhere online.

Powermind’s vision is to provide first-class care to improve the lives of people with substance use disorders. Our mission is to empower individuals to live healthy, fulfilling lives by healing their body, soul and subconscious. We will help people improve their health and well-being by offering individualized programs tailored to each person’s needs. We will provide first class care and support through COMPASSION, RESPECT, COMPETENCE, and COMMITMENT.

Powermind will be managed by Diana Capraro, CEO and Founder. Diana lived a traumatic childhood surrounded by people who had addictions and understands the difficulties that people with substance use disorders can face as well as the impact that addiction can have on their loved ones. Diana graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology and has 10 years of experience working in mental health and addictions services with adults and children. Why is this so important?

Substance use is indirectly and directly responsible for 11.8 million deaths each year worldwide. Just over 350,000 people died from substance use disorders in 2017 (185,000 from alcohol and 167,000 from illicit drugs), with the number rising 18% nationally in overdose during pandemic years (Abramson, 2021). Statistics show that addiction to alcohol and illicit drugs (which includes opioids, cocaine, amphetamines and cannabis) has the highest number of deaths among substance use disorders worldwide and United Kingdom. More than half of the people who die from an alcohol or drug overdose are men and women under the age of 50 (Ritchie & Roser, 2019).

These graphs clearly show the importance of accessing treatment at an early stage to prevent death. Although there are some options available on the NHS, due to a lack of government funding, unfortunately these options are limited. The waiting list is very long and some people may not be seen in time. The success rates of the best private rehab clinics are far better than the rates achieved through the NHS and community services. The 2012 report demonstrates this (Acquiesce, 2021).

Some of the benefits of choosing to go private are: fast admission, a flexible and adjustable treatment plan, confidentiality and a support team you can trust, multiple treatment methods at one site, access to a ongoing support from a range of professional therapists, time to build trust, often offer complementary therapies and aftercare programs to support your recovery beyond your stay (Hilliard, 2019).

Why Powermind?

At Powermind, we differentiate ourselves from others because as an outpatient clinic, we offer the same structured treatment as inpatient rehabilitation centers, and individuals can also access their treatment online wherever they are! We believe that 30 days of treatment is not enough, so we will give customers the option to extend their treatment to 12 weeks!

Powermind aims to give people the tools they need to lead the fullest life possible. Our goal is to improve health, support individuals and families on the road to recovery, and ultimately help the wider community reduce crime. Funds will be spent to start the project, such as renting a clinic, renovating, hiring staff, and purchasing assets needed to practice safely.

To test the success of the Powermind Clinic, psychometric testing and feedback was used to gather qualitative evidence from clients who engaged in individual sessions and 12-week psychoeducational workshops with Diana Capraro. Diana Capraro currently works privately and for the NHS.
